Performance optimization of RSOA based mm-wave radio-over-fibre access network

Abstract In this paper, a Reflective Semiconductor Optical Amplifier based, Radio-over-Fibre access network configuration has been proposed to feed future millimeter-wave radio systems. The system architecture combines several approaches overcome the challenges of signal transmission. semiconductor optical amplifier modulator realizes colorless and relatively cost-effective Remote Antenna Unit. same carrier is used for both downlink uplink. single-sideband modulation at downlink, which robust against chromatic dispersion, but complex realization format not possible intermediate frequency transmission applied uplink direction, required local oscillator originates from central station. critical element reflective amplifier, as it compensates loss works an external intensity modulator. operation modeled by multisection rate wave equation-based description. amplification behaviors available are also measured. experimental work validated quality versus bias current input power. Finally, simulation was realized. power budgets were balanced, optimal values coupling RSOA have selected.
